APD searching for vehicle involved in fatal Oct. 1 hit-and-run

Aurora police are asking for the public’s help in finding a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in the early hours of Oct. 1.

The vehicle is a dark-colored Chevy sedan (Impala, Malibu or Cruze) with damage to the front passenger side, according to a social media post from the Aurora Police Department Wednesday afternoon. Parts of the car were found at the scene of the crash, which occurred on East Hampden Avenue, just east of South Picadilly Road.

Officers first responded to the call of a person lying in the roadway around 6 a.m. on Oct. 1, according to a previous news release from APD. The man had been pushing a shopping cart in Hampden’s eastbound lane when he was hit by the suspect vehicle, also traveling eastbound.

The victim was taken to the hospital with significant injuries suffered in the crash, where he later died, police said. The vehicle may have continued driving in the direction of Gun Club Road.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area from 5:30 a.m. onward and may have any information about the crash to come forward. People can submit crime tips anonymously through Metro Denver Crime Stoppers by calling 720-931-7867.
