Boys soccer roundup: Pine Creek, Cheyenne Mountain advance to semis; defending 4A champs Air Academy ousted in quarters

Just two Pikes Peak region boys soccer teams remain in the playoffs after wins Saturday and both advanced to the semifinals via shutouts.

In 5A, Pine Creek ventured to Englewood High School to face an undefeated Cherry Creek team that owned a 29-match win streak and had scored at least one goal in every contest since Sept. 19, 2024.

Pine Creek ended both of those runs as the No. 7-seeded Eagles beat the defending champs 1-0 in the quarterfinals. Pine Creek’s win avenged a 3-0 loss the Bruins handed the Eagles on Sept. 27. Pine Creek’s win is its first over Cherry Creek since Nov. 6, 2019, when they also won 1-0. The Eagles will play No. 6 Regis Jesuit at 5 p.m. Tuesday at University of Denver.

This is Pine Creek’s first trip to the final four since 2019 when the Eagles (13-2-3) also faced the Raiders, who also earned the six seed.

In 4A, Cheyenne Mountain, the No. 12 seed, netted a pair of goals in its 2-0 victory against No. 13 Evergreen and the Red-Tailed Hawks (10-4-4) improved to 8-0-2 in their last 10 contests and face top-seeded Mullen at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood.

This is the Red-Tailed Hawks’ first semifinals trip since 2015 when they lost 4-3 to eventual champ Evergreen.

While Cheyenne Mountain seeks its first boys soccer championship since 2013 and fourth overall, Pine Creek aims for its second title after the Eagles won their first in 2013.

Also in 4A, Air Academy, the No. 10 seed and defending state champions, was shut out 3-0 against No. 3 Silver Creek. The Kadets wrapped the season 11-5-2.

Vanguard’s 2A playoff run ended in Salida after the Spartans handed the Coursers a 3-0 loss. The Coursers’ shutout loss was their first since Sept. 5 when Manitou Springs defeated Vanguard 2-0.

This story has been updated to show locations and times of the upcoming semifinals.
