Girls volleyball roundup: Defending 3A champion Village wins regional, six more area schools advance to state tournament

Village followed a rocky start to the season with a ticket to the upcoming state tournament at Denver Coliseum.

In their second year of play, the Mountaineers collected their second consecutive regional crown Saturday and dropped just one set en route to the 3A region 12 title.

The Mountaineers won the state championship in 2024 and finished 26-3, but this year, Village began the season 1-5 and went 16-2 in its final 18 matches.

Village (17-7), the No. 13 seed, swept No. 25 Montezuma-Cortez (25-19, 25-15, 25-14) and followed with a 25-17, 24-26, 25-16, 25-21 win against host No. 12 Prospect Ridge Academy. The Mountaineers have lost just one set in two years at regionals.

TCA continues 3A dominance, advances to state

“We just need to control what we can control,” The Classical Academy coach Layne Witmer said after the Titans’ 3A region 7 win. “We’re 15 strong and we need everyone locked in to make it work. It doesn’t matter who is on the other side, we take it one game at a time.”

The Titans have dropped just one set to a 3A team this year and bolted past their regional opponents, including 2024 state runner-up Platte Valley 25-18, 25-21, 27-25.

TCA (23-2) will own a 13-match winning streak ahead of the state tournament and last lost Oct. 4 to Cheyenne Mountain.

Rampart, Pine Creek cruise at home in 5A regional

The Rams and Eagles both held their respective opponents to 19 points or less in each of their six total sets.

The No. 5-seeded Rams (23-2) allowed 19 points in their opening set against No. 32 Vista PEAK Prep and kept the Bison and No. 20 Northfield to 16 or less the remainder of the day.

For Pine Creek (19-6), the Eagles earned their third consecutive regional title and have won four matches in a row via sweep.

Lewis-Palmer, Cheyenne Mountain lone 4A schools to advance to state

Six 4A teams advanced to the regional tournament, but only Lewis-Palmer and Cheyenne Mountain will head to Denver. Both the Rangers and Red-Tailed Hawks dropped just one set in their regional brackets to secure a state berth.

The Red-Tailed Hawks began the year 5-5, eventually found a rhythm and finished 15-10. Lewis-Palmer had a 3-6 record through nine games and now flaunt a 17-8 mark ahead of state.

For Lewis-Palmer, this is the fourth consecutive trip to Denver Coliseum while the Red-Tailed Hawks will travel to Denver for the eighth consecutive season.

Evangel Christian Academy secures 1A berth

The Eagles haven’t advanced to state since at least 2007, which is as far back as MaxPreps’ data extends.

That streak is over after the No. 9-seeded Eagles (20-4) swept No. 16 Cheraw 25-17, 25-22, 25-21. ECA owns a five-match winning streak and has also swept its past five opponents.
