Former Fort Collins school counselor arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a child

Fort Collins police arrested a former school counselor Thursday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child.

Janell Edsall, 29, faces charges of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, sexual assault on a client by a psychotherapist and false reporting to authorities, according to a news release from the City of Fort Collins.

Edsall was a school counselor at Poudre Community Academy, a high school located in between downtown Fort Collins and the Colorado State University campus. Authorities alleged she engaged in a sexual relationship with an underage student for about a year beginning in 2023.

She was employed by Poudre School District through July of this year. Edsall also worked as a private practice counselor at Vine Counselling in Fort Collins.

The alleged crimes occurred when the student, now an adult, was a victim, according to authorities.
