Denver weather: 2-4″ of snow by sunset Wednesday, listing of area schools closed

Snow showers will continue on Wednesday into the late afternoon hours, with up to 4″ of snow possible in the city; higher amounts in the southern and western suburbs.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 p.m., including the cities of Aurora, Castle Rock, Parker, Elbert, Larkspur, Boulder, Brighton, Fondis, Arvada, Littleton, Longmont, City of Denver, Lakewood, Denver International Airport, Golden, Highlands Ranch, and Kiowa.

Denver residents can expect snow today, mainly before 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. Today’s high will be near 30.

North northeast winds to blow between 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Tonight there is a 30% chance of snow, mainly before 7 p.m. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 13. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the evening. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

The Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) deployed its big plows to the main streets overnight.

DOTI said most residential streets, including many in the city’s core neighborhoods, will not be plowed overnight. Instead, crews will focus on main roads and known trouble spots Wednesday.

A warm up happens on Thursday and Friday before another chance of snow on Saturday.

This next storm is forecast to stay mostly in Colorado’s mountains, however, some spillage onto the Front Range is possible Saturday and Saturday night.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 39. South southwest wind 5 to 7 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 40. South southwest wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the morning.

Saturday: A slight chance of snow showers before 11 a.m., then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45.
