1 arrested after shots fired during Denver traffic stop, shelter-in-place lifted

Denver police have taken an adult male into custody after shots were fired at officers during an unrelated traffic stop late Saturday night in the Capitol Hill area near East 13th Avenue and North Logan Street.

One bystander suffered a minor gunshot wound to the leg.

No officers were injured.

Police said officers were conducting an unrelated vehicle stop when an unknown person threw a rock at the patrol car and fled.

Shortly after, at approximately 8:54 p.m., shots were fired at the officers, who took cover behind vehicles but did not return gunfire.

Following the gunfire, a large number of officers responded to the area, closed roads, and issued a shelter-in-place order, which has now been lifted, according to Denver police.

The adult male whom the officers had detained during the vehicle stop suffered a minor gunshot injury to the leg and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

After searching the area, officers took an adult male suspected of throwing the rock into custody.

Police said the rock-thrower is related to the individual detained during the vehicle stop.

The incident remains under investigation.

Investigators ask that anyone with information regarding this incident contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous.
