Victim in Tuesday shooting in northeast Denver identified

A man who was shot and killed Tuesday in Denver has been identified.

Police responded at about 11:43 a.m. to the 12400 block of East 42nd Avenue near the Interstate 70 exit at Peoria Street on reports of a shooting. There, police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound lying next to a running truck. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after noon.

On Friday, the man was identified by the Denver Medical Examiner’s Office as Marvin Tuyub, 28.

Police arrested Lavon Ellis Wedgeworth, 44, on Wednesday in connection with the shooting. He was tied to the shooting after police reviewed surveillance footage showing his car near the scene of the shooting and obtained a video showing Wedgeworth and another man fighting Tuyub before the shooting.

The surveillance footage showed Wedgeworth’s car overtaking the one driven by Tuyub and forcing him to the side of the road before the shooting, an arrest affidavit said.

Wedgeworth remained in the Denver jail Friday. He faces a charge of first-degree murder.
