Airplane crash injures one

One person was injured after their small plane crashed in Ellicott, which is east of Colorado Springs, on Saturday morning.

According to the Ellicott Fire Protection District, crews responded to an aircraft ground emergency at Springs East Airport in Calhan at 10:24 a.m. on Saturday.

When they arrived, crews found a single-engine airplane that had crashed behind a nearby residence.

Emergency responders extricated the one person that was on the plane and provided medical care. The patient was then taken to a local hospital via UC Health Lifeline.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting the investigation, which is currently ongoing.
