Colorado water park voted among ‘best in U.S.’ – and it’s worth checking out
While most tourists aren’t coming to Colorado for its theme and water parks, a popular spot in the Denver metro area was just dubbed one of the best water parks in the country.
USA Today recently published the results from its 2026 ’10Best Readers Choice’ survey on the topic of ‘best outdoor water parks around the United States.’ While Splashway Waterpark in Sheridan, Texas ended up snagging the top nod, Water World in the Denver metro-area city of Federal Heights snagged 5th-place.
Spanning about 70 acres and with a wide range of water slides, multiple wave pools, and a gondola, Water World makes for a great escape on a hot summer day. It’s perhaps best known for a water slide called Voyage to the Center of the Earth that can take several minutes to complete, but its also got two water coasters, a tube bowl ride, towering body slides, multiple wave pools, and a surfing simulator, plus much more.
This writer checked it out for the first time last year and had an absolute blast. There’s plenty of green space and no shortage of options when it comes to finding thrills. It’s a must-add to summer activities in Colorado, especially for those on the Front Range.
