Denver bar shuts down ‘unvaxxed’ event citing “escalating safety concerns” and policy violations

Days after controversy started to brew related to an ‘unvaxxed singles and community’ meet-up that was slated to take place at a popular Denver bar, the bar has made a statement announcing that the event will no longer take place.

According to Recess Beer Garden, the event that was set to be hosted by online platform Unjected at their establishment on May 29 will no longer be taking place at Recess.

“Recess Beer Garden did not organize, sponsor, authorize, or book this event,” reads a press release related to the matter. “Like many of you, we became aware of it through social media less than 48 hours ago. According to the event organizer, our venue was selected at random and promoted without our knowledge or involvement.”

The reason that Recess provided for barring the event from taking place is that Unjected did not comply with the bar’s policies for hosting large events. Additionally, the bar cited “escalating safety concerns surrounding this situation.”

“As a business, we have always welcomed people from all backgrounds and beliefs,” reads the press release from Recess. “We maintain a strict non-discrimination policy for both our staff and our guests, and we do not condone hate speech, harassment, bullying, threats, or violence of any kind, regardless of viewpoint or affiliation.”

Recess reports that in recent hours, the company has seen “increasingly hostile rhetoric surrounding [the] situation, including hateful language, online attacks, threats toward our business, and harassment directed at our staff members who were not involved in this event.”

One impact Recess faced related to the event was ‘review bombing’ on platforms like Google Reviews and Yelp, in which numerous one-star reviews were left related to concerns about the Unjected event opposed to patron experiences with the establishment. Since the cancelation, additional ‘review bombing’ has taken place in which people have expressed their disappointment in the beer garden’s move to bar the event.

A notice on the Yelp page of ‘unusual activity’ in recent days appears to indicate that many of the reviews related to the matter are under further review. In similar past instances, establishments who have fallen victim to ‘review bombing’ have been able to eventually get those reviews removed.

In addition to the impacts of the ‘review bombing,’ there was also a Reddit post that got quite a bit of attention that called for people to report concern about the Uninjected event to the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment.

“Our priority has always been to provide a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for our employees and guests,” reads the press release from Recess Beer Garden. “We appreciate the many people who have reached out respectfully, and we expect all conversations and interactions, both online and in person, to remain respectful, nonviolent, and rooted in basic decency to one another and our staff.”

In response to Recess’ move to prohibit the event from taking place, Unjected made a social media post.

“No vax, no entry, still in 2026,” starts the video, soon confirming that Unjected has been “un-invited” from Recess Beer Garden and requesting that any Denver businesses that would be interested in hosting the event reach out. There seems to be a bit of interest from local businesses in the comments, but no new location has officially been announced.
