Statewide film festival marks Colorado’s 150th birthday, showcasing movies with local ties

To celebrate Colorado’s 150th birthday, Denver Film is hosting a statewide film festival designed to celebrate this beautiful place we call home.

The best part? The Colorado 150 Film Festival isn’t just happening in Denver. The film fest includes events around the state, set to run through late November. While screenings will take place in major cities as might be expected, events are also offered in mountain towns like Breckenridge, Silverton, Ouray and Pagosa Springs. Chances are there’s a local theater close to you that will be hosting a screening at some point over upcoming months.

A list of 150 films with Colorado connections can be found on the Colorado 150 Film Festival website. A few of the movies included in the fest are The Shining, BlacKkKlansman, True Grit (1969), The Hateful Eight, A League of Their Own and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation — but the lengthy list doesn’t stop there.

All movies included in the fest were either filmed in Colorado, take place partially in this state or a cast/crew member has some connection to the state.

According to the film festival’s website “The idea is simple: sit side by side with neighbors, old friends and new ones and watch great films in great places. Long-timers can reminisce. Newcomers can get to know their communities better. Everyone gets a memorable night on the town — and a deeper sense of home.”
