Colorado campground dubbed ‘best in US’ by camping resource The Dyrt

Popular camping-related website The Dyrt has once again released the results of their annual ‘Best Places to Camp’ awards and this year, a remote Colorado campground claimed the first-place spot nationwide.

The Dyrt’s selection process for top campgrounds aims to encompass a wide variety of camping environments, from RV parks to state and national park campgrounds to remote destinations to glamping options and beyond. In order to make their picks, the company considered user reviews and ratings of 10s of thousands of campgrounds spread around the country.

Without further ado, the top ranking campground nationwide of 2025 was deemed to be Lost Lake Campground.

The lakeside Lost Lake Campground is located in Colorado’s Gunnison National Forest near Paonia. The campsite features tent, RV, and equestrian sites, with campers claiming spots on a first-come, first-served basis.

The campground has 18 campsites that are available and due to seasonal weather in the area and its remote location, it only operates from mid-June through September. It’s $24 per night – find more info about Lost Lake Campground here.

Another Colorado camping spot also made the cut to be included among the ‘top 10’ camping spots in the United States at a respectable 7th-place ranking nationwide.

The 7th-place ranked campground was White Star Campground, located in Pike-San Isabel National Forest and near the town of Twin Lakes. This campground is quite a bit larger than Lost Lake Campground, with 67 sites spread around three different loops. There’s a ton of hiking in the area, which is part of White Star’s appeal.

Unlike Lost Lake, reservations can be made for spots at White Star. White Star typically operates from May through September, costing $30 per night. Read more about this campsite here.
