Music fest billed as “ultimate adult summer camp experience” returns to Colorado
A music festival that’s headed into its fourth year in southern Colorado bills itself as the “ultimate adult ‘summer camp’ experience” – and it sounds like its set to be a blast.
Scheduled to take place from August 28 through August 31 (Labor Day Weekend) at Monument Lake Resort in Weston, Caveman Music Festival starts with intimate songwriter performances during ‘campfire sessions’ on Thursday with an action packed all-day line-up on the big stage stretching throughout Friday and Saturday. The following Sunday, a green chili cook-off is set to take place, with a full day of “toned-down performances” providing a more relaxed vibe.

Music of the fest spans several genres, with Americana, alternative rock, and folk music leading the charge – perfect for the natural setting of the event.
A few recognizable names include The Toadies, Jamestown Revival, Band of Heathens, Uncle Lucius, Josh Weathers, and Dexter & the Moonrocks, but dozens of artists are set to perform throughout the weekend.
Co-founder of the Caveman Music Festival Red Shahan described the inspiration behind the fest as follows:
“When we started Caveman Music Festival, we wanted to bring folks together for an unforgettable experience soundtracked by music worth the listen in a place that filters out the noise, the kind of place you want to leave as lonely as you found it, off-the-grid and unplugged, immersed by the beauty of nature.” said Shahan. “The moment we set foot onto Monument Lake Resort, we knew it was the place. This land, wild and untouched, pulled us in with a deep reverence for the spirit of the earth that still runs deep here. The people that have called this home for generations find it harder year after year to make a living in the Purgatoire River Valley — where the jobs are few, opportunities are fewer, and the future holds less and less hope for their children. We want to give back. To the land. To the people. And most importantly, to the kids who call this place home.”
It’s also worth noting that this festival is hosted by a non-profit, with proceeds going back to the local community, aimed to elevate the learning experience for children attending school within 120 miles of Weston.
Tickets for the festival can be purchased on the Caveman Music Festival website, with single-day or four-day passes available. Single-day passes range from $129.99 to $139.99, with four-day passes starting at $269.99. On-site and off-site lodging options are available, including primitive tent sites, glamping options, and space for RVs. Plenty of rustic lodging options are available nearby, too. Plus, while the fest bills itself as an escape into nature for adults, it is all ages.
Undoubtedly a very ‘Colorado’ way to spend Labor Day Weekend, music fans and lovers of time spent outside should look into attending the Caveman Music Festival this year. Find additional information here.
