One dead after Federal Heights officer-involved shooting

A person died following a shootout with the police in Federal Heights on Thursday evening.

The Federal Heights Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call near the 8900 block of Federal Boulevard around 2 p.m., according to a news release from the department.

Upon the officers’ arrival, the suspect vehicle allegedly rammed police units, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

Two of the three people in the suspect’s vehicle were taken to the hospital, according to authorities. One person died from injuries. The police did not say whether the person who died was the one who exchanged gunfire with officers.

Federal Boulevard was closed for hours from 88th Avenue to 92nd Avenue while officers investigated the case.

The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) will be investigating the use of force by the officers. The Adams County Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased suspect following investigations.
