No. 6 DU Pioneers bounce back, dominate Alaska Anchorage for weekend split
The floodgates finally opened for Denver.
After scoring just three goals on nearly 90 shots in their last two games, a pair of losses, the Pioneers offense exploded for a 6-0 win on Saturday night against Alaska Anchorage to secure a series split.
A night after they went scoreless on the power play, the Pios went 4-7 on the man advantage Saturday as four different players got on the score sheet.
Freshman Kristian Epperson had the first multi-goal game of his career with both of his tallies coming on the power play.
James Reeder continued his solid start to the season with a pair of goals, while defenseman Eric Pohlkamp came back with a bang after being ejected following a game misconduct penalty Friday.
Fellow defenseman Eric Jamieson also got his third goal of his freshman campaign.
In net, freshman Quentin Miller started both games in the series for the second straight weekend. After allowing four goals on Friday, he got the second shutout of his young career, stopping 17 shots against the Seawolves.
DU is back in action next week at the home of the defending national champions, Western Michigan. It’s a two-game series in Kalamazoo, Mich., that will kick off NCHC play for David Carle’s team. Puck drop on Friday night is set for 5 p.m. on NCHC.tv.
