Aurora teen arrested in connection to Montview Park shooting
The Aurora Police Department arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection to a fatal shooting in November.
The department arrested the male — who will not be identified due to being a minor — on Monday on suspicion of first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a handgun by a juvenile, according to a news release from the department.
The incident occurred on Nov. 19 at Montview Park at the southwest edge on the corner of Beeler Street and East 17th Avenue. Officers first responded to the scene of a reported shooting just before 10 p.m.
Witnesses told police that two men were arguing when one of them pulled out a gun and fired it several times at the other, according to a previous news release.
The victim — later identified as 22-year-old Jibreel Nile — was taken to a nearby hospital and later died from his injuries. The suspect left before officers arrived.
The teen suspect was arrested nearly a month later. Official charges will be filed by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office following investigations.
