Man arrested for attempted murder after Thornton police chase
Thornton Police Department officers arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder Wednesday after he led them on a chase.
Ismael Barajas Aguilar, 39, faces attempted murder, assault, domestic violence and resisting arrest charges after he allegedly shot a woman in an apartment near the 9700 block of Pearl Street on Feb. 5, according to a Friday news release from the Thornton Police Department.
That day, the woman took herself to a local hospital around 1:30 p.m. after sustaining the gunshot wound, according to the release. Investigators then obtained an arrest warrant for Barajas Aguilar, and the man was found around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday near West 84th Avenue and Huron Street.
After identifying Barajas Aguilar, police initially tried to pull him over for a traffic stop as he drove toward Gale Boulevard, according to the release. The man did not stop, leading to a police chase.
After using a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) to stop the man at the Thornton Parkway on-ramp to Interstate 25 southbound, Barajas Aguilar tried to run from the scene before he was quickly detained by police, according to the release. He was then taken to the Adams County Jail.
