Wildfire near Chautauqua Park is 100% contained, Boulder Fire says
The Bluebell Fire near Chautauqua Park in southwest Boulder is 100% contained, Boulder Fire announced on X in a post late Saturday afternoon.
“There are no active flames and crews are in mop up,” Boulder Fire said.
The response team will continue to monitor the area through Sunday, according to the 6:30 p.m. update.
Officials issued an evacuation warning before 1:30 p.m. for the Chautauqua Cottages, a residential area, but the only people forced to evacuate were people using the trails around the area, said Boulder Fire Chief Michael Calderazzo in a press conference Saturday afternoon.
“There were hundreds of people on the trails when this fire came in. All of those people were safely brought down,” he said. “No injuries at this time.”
Popular trails in the area like Chautauqua Trail, Green Mountain and Enchanted Mesa will remain closed until the fire is fully cleared out and officials can investigate the site, he added.
The wildfire is believed to have started at noon Saturday and was estimated to have burned 1.5 acres, according to aerial mapping.
Calderazzo said Boulder Fire does not yet know if the fire was human-caused or a natural event.
“Won’t even speculate till we get folks up there looking at where the actual origin of it was,” he said.
It was the fifth new wildfire in the Denver metro to have sparked over the last five days, as dry and windy conditions have sparked Red Flag fire warnings across the state. Calderazzo said conditions on Saturday were favorable to limiting the spread of the fire.
Over 100 firefighters have responded to the scene and air support, including helicopters, have been helping crews work to contain the fire, the department said.
