The Aurora City Council will vote on police data sharing and golf equipment purchases in Monday night’s meeting, with both regular meeting and study session agendas much shorter than last time.

The first council meeting and study session in January lasted almost nine hours combined as members of the public took the podium to talk about an agenda item that declared the council’s opposition to “I.C.E overreach.”

In Monday night’s Aurora City Council meeting, the council will vote on whether to allow Aurora Police Department’s Real Time Information Center database to ingest Regional Transportation District camera feeds, council documents say.

The agreement between APD and RTD was first brought to councilmembers in a Management and Finance Policy Committee meeting in December, during which city Chief Information Security Officer Tim McCain said it was a “low-risk” request.

The partnership would allow police to work with RTD law enforcement “more rapidly to make sure we have resources on scene to assist” and add to resources in the department’s RTIC, McCain said.

APD’s RTIC opened late last year to help officials respond more efficiently to emergencies and solve crime more quickly.

The center brings together technology, like facial recognition, drone operations and Flock license plate readers — integrated through Axon’s FUSUS platform — into one room with sworn officers joining professional staff to monitor crime in the city in real time and relay that information to patrol officers.

Committee Chair Curtis Gardner expressed concern about data privacy in relation to the APD and RTD data collaboration, but said during the committee meeting that he was OK moving it forward.

Also Monday night, councilmembers will vote on approving $420,000 of the city’s Golf Fund for new golf equipment at Aurora’s five golf courses, council documents say.

Monday’s study session starts at 4:15 p.m. and the regular meeting will follow at 6 p.m. The regular meeting will take place in the Paul Tauer Aurora City Council Chamber, 15151 E. Alameda Parkway, and the study session will be livestreamed in the chamber.
