Record heat wanes over the next three days, but highs remain in the mid-90s, as chances for rain and thunderstorms increase around Denver and the metro area.
Denver residents can expect a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday, mainly after 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
It’ll be mostly sunny with a high near 93 and west winds blowing between 6 to 10 mph, becoming northeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 17 mph.
“Scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms will occur (today),” the NWS said. “Gusty outflow winds to 50 mph and brief heavy rain will occur with the stronger thunderstorms.”
Tonight we’ll see a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9 p.m. It’ll be mostly cloudy with a low around 65 and southwest winds will blow between 5 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.
“Scattered thunderstorms and showers are possible both Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon across the high country,” the NWS said. “Storms could bring gusty winds, lightning, and light rainfall. Recent burn scars may be susceptible to flash flooding.”
But a shift is in store starting Thursday, lasting through the end of the week; not nearly as hot and wetter.
“Cooler temperatures are likely and chances are increasing for additional rainfall for the mountains and plains Thursday into the weekend,” the NWS said.
Temperatures around Denver on Thursday will be 15-20 degrees cooler than they have been.
Here is the rest of the week’s forecast from the National Weather Service:
