Aurora police arrest man for allegedly possessing over 1,500 images of child sexual abuse
A nearly two-year investigation led to the arrest of an Aurora man for allegedly possessing more than a thousand images of child sexual abuse last Thursday.
The Aurora Police Department arrested 51-year-old Derald Vandawalker on Nov. 6, serving an active arrest warrant out of Arapahoe County for 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a child, according to a press release from the department.
The investigation began in January 2024 when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children gave a tip to the department regarding a cloud storage account located in Aurora with over 150 images of child sexual abuse on it.
Detectives served a search warrant at Vandawalker’s home — located at 3805 S. Gibralter St. — and seized multiple devices. Investigators ultimately found over 1,500 images of child sexual abuse material on the devices, the department said.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Callers can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
Vandawalker is due in the Arapahoe County Court on Dec. 15 for an arraignment.
